Toledo blade photojournalist gets canned for chopping...I saw this article on the web and thought my old buds here might find it intersting.

Article is here: http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003571794

The editor's statement and links to sample chops is here:

The "enhancements" were minor and ultimately didn't affect the story being told in the pictures. However like the editor said; it was dishonest and the photographer had signed on to abide by a code of ethics.

Pretty good chopping on that basketball though. Laughing

that's amazing. I can't believe what I would consider "cleaning up" or adding some drama would be a problem. I could see it if you put a couple of people together so you could write an article that they were seen together or something like that but......kind of ashame.
Good article.
Thanks!

You can't draw a line!!! You can't even stamp tool it! That's the point...

I don't really know how to say it in english, but that should be obvious. If you have some dust in your lens, you should have the right to ps it. Don't play with the meaning of the pic and it'll be all good. I mean, the girls were playing basketball. The moron who took the shot missed the basket ball. To hide the fact that he's a moron, he chopped a basket ball. Case closed.

this is stupid. It's not like he staged any of the photos and/or added fire, smoke, destruction, etc to change any part of the story. All he did was basically blot out some distracting and irrelevant things in the background. As for the photos where he added trees, bushes and some sport balls, who cares? Rolling Eyes

If he didn't tell his employers what he was doing then he did it dishonestly. He only tried to make himself look like a photographer who knows how to take great shots instead of being comfortable with the format and goals of the newspaper by depicting the scene as it really was. Some photos may need cleaning up because it's the only shot available but again it doesn't appear that he made this known.
