That is what most of us are here on this site. Just a bunch of superficial guys who try to bump their ego..

Did anyone read the artist statement then debate his views and vision of what art is?

No.

Smile and as i said, Cy Twombly was an abstract expressionist, and that white canvas i think he did it just to fit the 60's fashion, a mistake in a way...the guy was truly an important artist... that white paintings was a mistake and he was punished for it.

but anyway, the monochrome painting, all black , all white was a very short period of art, we have to put this in the context. NOBODY TODAY does this anymore... it raised 3 million dollars cuz it belongs to modern art (means 50's60's), Cy Twombly is 80 yo and belongs that generation of painters that wanted to break the rules... being not a big fan of that minimalism either, i dont support the idea that Twombly made that painting, but knowing quite good the american painting i can tell u that these painters that ,btw, were able to paint sthg much more more painted" than that and it was just the occasion of making fun of art itself....they had fun of the art system...and it worked...but it wouldnt work today ! Cool

Not all monochromes are intended to make fan of the art business.

I t is better to stop the argument right here because this is going to end with what is art...

Most of us don't understand abstract expressionism not cubism, even surrealism.

Who can understand and interpret dreams? they do exist, but most of us don't want to understand them because we are lazy.

Ask Eve about Sam Francis, he is expressionist too. She will tell how wonderful his art is.

how are we supposed to get all this out of looking at white?
you see peace, white dominance or any of those and I see polar bears in a snow storm. Wink
Love Monet and what he did and I can look at one of his paintings and see something and if I really like it alot I will go investigate more about it to get a better understanding of what the whole mood of it is but at least I have a starting point to look at.

i guess I'm going to strike it big with this entry then! Shocked

http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/125961/all-from-source.html

see? genius.
ok, perhaps not.

but, as an artist myself (of sorts) i can understand why Cy Twombly's work is over-priced, but that still doesn't mean I agree. In fact, it angers me that too much art nowadays is based solely on it's conceptuality, rather than execution.

Micose should be commanding huge prices for his artwork because of their sheer excellence in the execution department, but blank bone-white canvasses with clever words? grrrrrrr.
