I've been collecting coins since I was a kid, so for me this is pretty cool, the US penny is getting a makeover this year, Shocked look!

Is anyone else besides me a coin collector or Numismatist?
And if so, what's your favorite coin?

I have a 1879 penny which is huge, IN pretty good condition, from my great great great grandfather.
I collect all the states coins, just missing alaska and hawaii and coins from all over the place. Smile New penny sounds cool, I'll have to get it when I visit u.s again. Very Happy

is this it?
Pre 1964 were mostly pure silver, your coin is prob. @ 40%, the best way to see what it's worth is to find one like it on ebay, and see what it's going for.

This is an 8 Escudo Spanish gold doubloon, and one of my favorite coins, it's about as big as an old silver dollar Wink

Here are some old pieces of 8, or 8 Reals, back in the day you had to work for 1 month, and you got paid 1 of these, this batch came from a shipwreck off Ft Pierce Fla.

When I was like 10-11 I got really reallyyyy obsessed with coins. I know that at one point I had every penny, nickel, dime, and quarter that the US minted from 1949-2001. I had a few rarer coins too, and I loved collecting what I called "wheat" pennies and "indian head" pennies (much harder to find). A few years ago I went to the US Mint in Denver. The process is really awesome.

Your collection is awesome though. Maybe when I'm older I'll get back into it.

Yeah... I've been known to collect coins...

Laughing (Edit: For those that don't know, panhandling was a requirement in the (2007) Scavenger Hunt V.)

Seriously though, I get the US Mint Silver Proof Set every year; I'm always checking (if not saving) coins I get as change, and I have a few "old" coins. My favorite is not my oldest, largest, nor my most valuable coin. But it was given as a baby present for my father (in 1932) and is now a family heirloom:

(pics found on 'net... too lazy to get the coin out and snap my own photos)
