I'm trying to hunt up a sample camera raw image to show my supervisor how they work. Our company camera got stolen and we're looking for another. He wants to see what kind of control you have over an image when in camera raw to determine if we should get a camera that can shoot raw.

I had that pic of the waitress but I can't find it. So I'm looking for any camera raw image (non-porn that is) that I can show the Photoshop interface to him with.

Help?

Sorry, I don't think my camera does RAW photos, it is too cheap for that.

Tofu: go here: RAW TEST FILE

(if it doesn't work right away, wait for 5 minutes or so as I'm uploading it now and it is almost 18meg in size. Just did a quit set up and shoot with my little g10 - image has dark things and white things and some grain and mixed tungsten/daylight in it. It should give you something to tweak those sliders with! Wink )

*edit* damn! that last site of mine wouldn't take it so I've had to upload it to another server of mine - give it another 5 minutes or so and then re-click on the above link.

Thanks Reindude! Very Happy

I had a Doh! moment though. I've been googling for "filetype:raw". Doh!

I should have been looking for "filetype:cr2" I guess? Also I realized I should have simply searched for "camera raw samples".

Ended up finding http://www.rawsamples.ch/index_en.php

Soooooo . . . I can stop uploading this thing, then? Raising Brow

*edit* Too late. You may as well snag it, as it will probably be the ONLY "commissioned" photo I take for you! Laughing

Snagging. I have no idea what the pics are like on the other site. For all I know they're product shots of the cameras themselves. But I'm downloading your shot and a couple from the site as well.

Thanks Reinman!

No sweat! If you got any more RAW questions post them here - I shoot pretty much exclusively in RAW (not IN THE RAW, people! Get yer minds out of ReinMan's Pants, fer heaven's sake!) and I've learned a few things about it.

And if you want that Fabulous Photo autographed, send a cheque (or "check" since you are American Wink) to
the ReinMan Needs More Gear Foundation
- I'll send off my autographed autographing pen to you RIGHT AWAY!

Ah yes! Those bastards at Adobe may NOT have updated the CS3 RAW component...

You SHOULD be able to open it in PREVIEW (if you are on a MAC) but I'd first check to see if your Adobe Camera Raw is UP TO DATE.

Huh..

This is a big issue with RAW, as it is not always backwards compatible. The BEST work around (some do this right away) is to put the RAW through the Adobe Digital Negative converter (DNG). You can download it here for free:

http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/

What you do is take pretty much ANY RAW file and run it through this - it will convert it into a UNIVERSAL "DNG" file that pretty much ANY RAW PROCESSOR can use, including your old ancient CS3 machine! Twisted Evil

Keep us posted! (by "us" I probably mean "me" as I'm sure no one else is reading this thread.... Razz )

It is an issue of the so-called camera RAW plugin.
My CS4 came with plugin version 5.0 and is not yet able to read the CR2 from ReinMans Canon G10. I did not try updating yet, but the recent version is 5.5 and should include it.

Now the bad news, Tofu. The last plugin version accepted by CS3 is 4.6.
Either you make sure to work with supported cameras, or you indeed try the converter.
For the moment you might also try the cr2-files from the other website you found.

Yes, Dunno, you is RIGHT. (thusly, I called Adobe BASTARDS in my previous post with, for me, justified reasons Rolling Eyes)

DNG converter will solve your issues. Very Happy

P.S. Yes, the new 5.5 Adobe Camera Raw update will indeed fix it for "newer" cameras in CS4. Wink

Thanks for pointing out the DNG converter!
Something's telling me, my PS version wont be always updatable either...

Hey Tofu, haven't used a raw file in a while but if I remember correctly you need to open it from cs3 bridge, I think it gives info on how to do it in the help section.
