Hi guys I was texting with Soulrock this AM, about his not having his own PC but could he have his own PS on a portable HD and be able to plug it in anywhere on any same type of computer of course and would it work out for him to do so??

Feedback? Anyone doing such?? Thanks ahead of time.

So with no real answers I tried it myself.
I just hooked up my backup HD which has PS installed from when it was my Macbook HD and so far PS CS works no problem that way. CS3 is saying App moved and settings need to be repaired. But then it goes on and operates. I am going to try it on a Mini-PC laptop with it's own external HD and see if it will install. Stay tuned!

i could have told you this usually works with photoshop.

there are a lot of programs this will work with.. it usually has to do with if it was installed in the default locations. the executables usually know where to look so do the dll's and what not.

if it dont work, in a lot of cases, you can go to system32/reserv32.exe and drag the executable and/or a couple of the dll files onto that file and it will register those files on that drive in their location in the registry and resurrect that program to funtionality.

I used to run a main network drive for multiple systems in that very manner. I have built and ran some rather advanced setups in my 22 years of computers.

BTW this is on windows... I know nothing about how mac file systems work

Hey Marty - good job!

I'm wondering if you tried to download it to a usb flash drive? If it worked on a port hd I'd think that it should also work on that (as long as it has enough memory). If you try it let me know.

Thanks, John
