how does everybody think of an idea? When i look at the feature pic i have many ways of trying to think of something. sometimes i close one eye and stare at it, or ill flip it upside down and look at it for a while. I will also set the image as my wallpaper for a while so i can look at it whenever im on my computer. What does everybody else do? share.

If anything comes to mind, I store it in my head and keep brainstorming for more ideas. Once I have a few, I go through them all and decide which one I think would be the best. Then I proceed to try and transfer that idea from my head into pixels and hope it turns out ok.

I get those ideas while at work. You know,
those brilliant 500 vote ideas. I'm always 50 or 60 feet up a tree at the time, and can't write it down.
At the end of the day, I am always driving home in my car...cussing..
cause I can't remember what it was.
Instead I just chop without thinking at all, and it just evolves.

boah!... what are you all doing difficult!!!

I always import the pic into photoshop and convert it to greyscale. Then I print it out on A4 paper.

After printing I cut out the less important parts at the borders untill I have a square left.

Then comes the fun part: I browse the internet for origami pages and search for a nice model. Sometimes I am in a "lotus flower" mood and sometimes in an "african elephant" mood for example.

And then I start doing origami with the featured pic while looking how the light of the candles around me influences it.

And then suddenly.. *PLOP* .. I know what to do with it. Its that simple! Try it!

Oh.. one tip... If it doesn't work out then try printing out in color or use a scented candle... that really can help when it doesn't do *plop*.

Good luck! Smile

I don't have a huge portfolio for a reason...if the picture doesn't inspire me right away...I don't try and force something out.

Most all of my chops I’ve posted here have either been accidents...or the idea came to me within minutes of looking at the pic.

My only winning post was an accident… it just happened.

For me.... art shouldn't be forced.... it’s all about inspiration.

Namaste~

After I down load the picture I sit and look at it for a bit...then something comes to me, not always a good idea but one none the less. Lets take the room pic from today this was my first idea,

See not always good ideas at first. Didn't think a drunk Santa would have been in good taste. But then again not everything I submit is worth looking at either.

I sit down, slip into my world of mentalists and insane creations, and just let it all happen Very Happy

but more seriously, I may draw some quick roughs of ideas, or take the main aspects I wish to a fresh canvas then have a think.

also I see if it is a good source for an extension, or a 2d to 3d conversion, as I enjoy them, time consuming but hey who cares Very Happy
