This is a painting I did for fun (18x24" acrylic on canvas)...

Beautiful! I haven't done much conventional painting in a while. For a while I was doing life-sized celebrities, on plywood, for my church's Halloween carnival, like this one:

It's kinda hard to get motivated to paint with acrylics, when painting in PhotoShop is so easy.



Lately, I have been doing cartoony character portraits, for an online game I play. I'm trying to get better at drawing.

Here's my best photoshop painted piece. This is 100% photoshop using a Wacom pen, and looking at reference.
Unfortunately I'm about to start on a video game title for the studio so no digital painting for a while.

Mhm, Indiana Jones. I use acrylics for exactly that reason. You can see my living room carpet, in the background!

Crabby, that is breathtaking! What a beautiful painting. Do you have any more to share? I'd love to see more of your work.

Yeah.. a while back I did a character self-portrait in Photoshop, for a contest entry, and people gave me so much crap. They said I just filtered a photo. Not true--I did use a photo of myself as reference, but I repainted every pixel.

People with only a casual knowledge of Photoshop think we just push a button. That kind of mentality gets really old, really fast.

Thanks for the comments It's hard to start digital painting, because you only see results when the painting is nearly complete, so it's very very easy to be discouraged. No classes are needed (I'm self taught for example), you just need to discover your style.
And yes I completely agree, it gets very dicey when you do good work and people think you took a shortcut. I've been accused several times of "painting over", but I just take it as a compliment.

Also, very nice work you have there guys! Maybe more people will post their work.
