I think it would be fun: one pic, no advantage, 30 mn to post before contest is closed... what do you think?

but in theory, its a sound idea

one pic, no advantage, 30 mn to post before contest is closed. why not just see who can re-post the stock image the fastest? or how about we guess and post what we *think the next stock image is gonna be>,,,,,,,
or NONE of the above

You could have it in "rounds" so that each tie zone gets a shot.

Then try to figure out a way to do a face-off.

Is there not an average time that could be acceptable for everybody? The daily pic comes out at 2:00 pm for me...

maybe with having to host the pic and all ? maybe this contest should be an hour?
I'm just thinking actual idea creation and chopping having to be in twenty minutes a
little too tight?
I say you set a time T and we all have to make it here on our own?
I hope you declare one to start within the next twenty four hours!!!!!!!!!!
This is gonna be great

I love this idea...pick a day, use the daily image and chop away! Everyone is used to the contest opening time. we should all be able to accomodate that.

however...I could host something like this off site in a forum just like this place. I could make private threads, say 4, all starting at a different time. You'd have to sign up to the forum, tell me which contest time you want and I would give you access to that thread. Some of us would get the picture earlier and some later but we would only be able to see the one we were given access to. make sense? I could set up a demonstration if people wanted to try it.

course...we'd have to trust that friends wouldnt share with others for a later contest but if people want to cheat for this then they'd be the lowest of the low lifes! even lower than canadians! Wink

when he goes and get's himself a family,
is when them kids are born...no more prancing
around the house making up penis songs.......

I like the idea (I'd suck at it but I like it). But how about a minor alteration that would allow to overcome the time-zone dilema?

The pic would be on a page (or popup like the "compare to original" in the submissions) that you'd have to be logged in to get to. When users click the link/button to get to the special page (to get the pic) the timer starts ticking for that user. The database would hold the timestamp for when the user got the pic (regardless of our timezones it's the time on the server that matters as it's the common location for all of us)

When the users go to upload their chop the submission's timestamp is compared to the download timestamp. If the difference is outside the time limit the submission is rejected. The contest would run for 24 hours from when the original is posted and voting would be activated once the timer has expired. Either that or the each chop can only be voted on for 24 hours from the submission timestamp. That way all entries get the same exposure and voting opportunity. The downside is that the contests would run a total of 48 hours though. But the time-limit for chopping would still be there at least and isn't that the spirit of the game?

There's still the possibility of cheating canadians who'd email the pic around the globe but I don't think it'd matter much. I think that this would get around the time zone problems at least. What say you all?
