To tell you the truth. I did not even notice that anyone replied.
Good job Jerry!

First I made a selection of the area that needed to be changed then on a new layer filled it with a color that I liked.

Then i used a selection again and duplicated the purse. I dragged this layer to the top, desaturated it and set it to screen.
Then I duplicated that and set it to overlay.
Then using the selection again I created a curves adjustment layer and tweaked the colors a bit.
After that I desaturated the highlights abit with a hue and saturation adjustment layer.
Hope it helps. There are a million ways to do this. This is just one way. Experiment.

No, yours is fine, but about 100 steps longer
plus, yours doesn't have pretty pictures to look at with the steps.

Actually it was about the same number of steps there mason. Not 100 more...just different steps. I wrote this method because I didn't have a clue what the picture actually looked like or what the skill level is of the person who asked....so I kept it simple using simple tools that most people would understand (including you). In actuality, I would do the work in the L*A*B colorspace in half the steps and half the time because hand masking would not be required....But to describe that would be entering the deep dark forest of esoterica.

Just follow the steps that I already showed you when you get to the end you can adjust the rest with a curves layer or a hue/saturation layer.
