This is pretty sad, in Advantage today to be voted on, is an old picture of my good friends father, John Gipson Parker Jr. he was an officer in the Navy, on the submarine "USS Spikefish", not long after this photo was taken, he and his young 2 year old son were killed by a drunk driver down in the Florida Keys, this was back in 1959, he, his wife and 4 boys, were hit head on by a driver being chased at over 100 mph by the police. Last year, Key West was hit by a hurricane that flooded 80% of the island, my friend had all these old black & white photos in a large Tupperware type container, it tipped over, and all the pictures were dumped in the water, he overwhelmed me with the task of helping him restore a lot of pictures, this being one of them, I felt that this could be a great way to do a tribute to him, we have so many great people here at PSC that really know how to rally to the aid of someone in need, I know my friends mother would be so appreciative of this, so far it's wining in votes, and I hope it gets in. Smile

I bet if you had just posted it in the forums people would be happy to help.
It just doesn't seem like a very good source for a contest though.

I really think that it's great of you to help restore these, and I also recommend making a thread to ask people here to help restore them. I don't know if it's a good idea for a contest though. In theory, it'd be good, having everyone to compete and try to do the best restoration possible. But, in reality, there are probably going to be a lot of chops, created either by people that don't see this thread, or that are just mean, that may be rude, offensive, maybe even hurtful to you or your friends to see. Are you sure you want this? I'll vote for it, but only if you insist. Smile

Thanks for the response everyone, I know about others that might do something rude Mason, in fact even telling everyone about this tragedy will change the whole mood of this chop, but overall I think it will be very interesting, I talked to my friend about it, and he likes the idea, the other black & white that was selected a few days ago, is from that same group of damaged photos, Mrs. Parker, (my friends mom) is the little girl on the right side of the picture, she's just turned 80. One thing that always amazes me here, is the group of ideas that come from out of the blue, I'm sure it will be good to see what comes of it. Thanks again everyone Smile

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to work on this old, badly damaged photo, I know some choppers don't know what was going on because they don't read the forums, but overall, there are some really great chops, I did not do anything for this contest, I may still get in, but the clock got the better of me Confused

Thanks Again PSC Very Happy
