Some of you are probably wondering what the ‘Like a Storm’ contest is all about. Not too long ago I was contacted by Chad L. who works with Total Assault to promote various bands. One of his ideas was to create a contest on PSC for the band Like a Storm. This would be an amazing addition to a participant’s design portfolio.

Before you participate in the contest, read the instructions that were give to me. It would probably also be a good idea to know a little bit about the band (see the links at the bottom).

Contest link: http://photoshopcontest.com/photoshop-contest/3120/preview.html
Contest image: http://photoshopcontest.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=13625

Prizes: (will be determined using a combination of votes from other PSC members as well as votes from the band)
1st place: Signed and framed poster, CD
2nd place: CD, T-shirt, Poster, Patch
3rd place: CD, T-shirt, Poster, Patch

Instructions:
-the eye must be included but can be altered
-the band name must be included but the font can be altered
-anything (just remember our rules on PSC) can be on the image, but the theme of the image should be a storm

We have gotten reports of PM spam lately. They are using signatures that make it appear that they are part of the administration team here. This is not true.

The only admin at PSC is Procyon. You can find a list of the mods here: http://photoshopcontest.com/boards/groupcp.php?g=10518&sid=33e81bd0e3527ee112672e425412db7d

We will never send you a PM with a virus alert, or anything that requires you to click a link to something other than PSC (unless off course we're just chatting :D)

The point is, beware of people pretending to be associated with the board.

Below is an example of the PM spam:

Dear, **UserName**!

A virus alert was noticed on your computer.
We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately: **URL Hidden**
----------------------------------------------------
Sincerely, Forum Administration photoshopcontest.com.

If you received this PM or a similar one, let me (or another mod) know. We will take care or it. Also be sure not to click the link. Chances are, the site will try to get you to download a virus. When you let us know, be sure to include the username that the spam came from.

I'll be working on a more permanent solution to this, but it won't be immediate because I've got a lot going on at college right now. I hope everyone understands.

-Trey (TutorMe)

EDIT

This problem should be fixed now. I've done some extensive testing, and everything appears to be working properly now. However, as with any code changes there is always the possibility for a bug. If you discover a bug, please shoot me PM and I will fix it ASAP.

I spent my last few days buying gifts for my family. Christmas is always sort of bittersweet for me. I never really know what to get people...I don't mind buying a gift, but it's always the problem of choosing the right gift. Then when the moment comes, it's always nice to see they liked what you gave them.

So before we all log off from our computer Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everybody from PSC and all the moderators.

- from MODERATORS and OWNER

Recently, there have been some issues regarding using outside sources in chops (creations) here at PSC. The reality is, almost everyone here has at one time "borrowed" images from the internet. In fact, in recent years, many members have made it a habit to list EXTERNAL sources on their images. This, in a small way, acknowledges our usage of other people's work in the creation of our own images. Some members do not bother giving these details, and there will probably always be an ongoing discussion if this is right or wrong.

The reality is: if you don't have written permission from the other artist/photographer/graphic designer/techDweeb/etc. then you SHOULDN'T be using it.
And, if we adhere to that reality, this website could quickly grind to a halt.

So here are some GUIDELINES that we hope you will all seriously consider: If you choose to go the "disclose source material" route, be IMPECCABLE with it. This is important from a "copyright" point as well as a moral artistic point. Don't pretend you've done something cool that SOMEONE ELSE has put their own creativity into. GIVE THEM CREDIT, or at least don't put that credit upon yourself.

PRETENDING THAT YOU'VE CREATED SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVEN'T WILL GET YOU BANNED ON THIS SITE. Please note: we are serious about this.

If you are in doubt about what you are using, spend some time going through your own files of personal and family photos and find something you can use. Or do like many of us do here, grab a camera and go shoot what you need.

Thanks for your consideration and we trust that you'll all get the spirit behind this message!

This is a very fun time for the PSC family to get together before christmas and spread a little holiday cheer to our fellow PSC friends. A Kris Kringle is one who makes (using photoshop) a chopped image , an animation or a tribute to there fellow PSC member for Christmas.

First, start by signing up on the PSC Kris Kringle Thread. Then, starting december 11th at midnight...you may pick someone from the kringle list. (Note: You may not pick a Kringle before dec 11th). Once you have chosen one. Make a tribute to them and then submit it in this Kris Kringle Forum. You have until Christmas eve to submit it.

Once again, we wish everyone a happy holiday season from the folks here at the PSC.
