I woke up this morning and the computer was acting up... first i notice it was making sounds like as if it was buffering something ... so i pulled up the task manager and this is what i saw. I don't know what all those numbers and lines are for or what they do but i have never seen my computer like this. I closed all my programs and everything but its still making this sounds and the CPU usage goes up and down... the memory goes up to about 1.38 GB and the goes back to .99 i don't know whats going on i need help.

Confused

my system as standard runs 69, and the above system isn't too shoddy at all, it should be able to cope easily... whats the total RAM?

Select the Processes tab and sort it alphabetically. See what's running. Do you have some maintenance tasks scheduled by mistake? If you have everything closed and your CPU is getting heavy usage, something's doing it.

I had the same problem on a computer I owned a few years back.

Apparently what happened was someone hacked into my system and loaded a trojan virus.

Do a complete virus scan of your system. It looks like a program or application is running in the background sucking up your resources.

Also, check for spyware.

Let me know what happens.

That "dwm.exe" file is taking a lot of resources up. Did you recently enable glass effects on your desktop? DWM can either be desktop windows management or, as some websites say, spyware. If you have enabled your desktop effects, try disabling them and see if things speed up. I'm not sure you should just end the process, however, if they are running. Just an idea.

Spybot can catch stuff that AdAware doesn't. Makes a good 1-2 punch combo.

Also, IMHO, McAffee is a crappy anti-virus. So is Norton. Both are resource hogs. Your slowdown could've been during a system scan?

Anyway, put serious consideration into AVG (http://www.grisoft.com). It plays much nicer than Norton and McAffee.

I ran both of them and spybot picked 32 problems... i deleted them but the problem continues... so i called gateway to see if they could help and they got me to turn some startup programs... it didn't work Crying or Very sad

I don't know what else to do but to do a full system restore Crying or Very sad
