I have a CD with photos and a couple mpg movie clips on it. I need one of the movie clips so that I can upload it to America's Funniest Videos.
However, the computer says that it is not a valid movie file.
I *can* open all the jpg on the disc, just not the movie files.
Is it because the disk was written on a Windows computer, is there something wrong with my file, or is it the new mac?
Confused.
Thanks for any ideas!
I am thinking I may have to go to another computer like at my parents' house, and get the file off the disk, then email it to myself?

It's most likely the file. I'd suggest trying it on another comp.

Could be the file type. There's a BUNCH of different movie formats and the software you're using on your mac probably doesn't recognize the file type.
Also what kind of disc is it? Home-burned CD or commercial? What computer OS was the disc made on? And do you know the software?

It is a CDRom that I copied the MPG file onto using my Windows '98 lap top using Sonic Record Now writing software.
I have a brandy new 24" imac that we just got Friday... Running quicktime on here. I can see the file and the properties on it say it is an mpg, but it is all capital letters MPG not mpg. Does that matter any where else but the internet?

Almost looks like OS X doesn't support mpegs right out of the box? Apple sells an add-on component:

If all else fails, the you tube video can be copied using the 'Zamzar' web site. Just copy the URL into the box, select the format and enter your Email. A download link to the converted movie will be sent to your email.
Hope it helps

Hi Girl,
What you most likely need is Flip 4 Mac, which is a plug in that lets QUICKTIME play WindowsMediaPlayer files. The MAC doesn't "do this" out of the box. Good news, it is free.

That will get you more info and also neccessary links!

reinman speaks the truth. You need Flip 4 Mac. Have you tried opening it up in iMovie? It has an import feature. I've never tried it, but it might work.

Reindude is right. Flip4Mac can do it. Another I have used is VisualHub. But ask Tarmac, he will know for sure.
