I've had them land on me and if you remain still they will realize you are nothing of interest and fly away. At least outside. But inside is another story. They seem to get disoriented and get into a bad mood.

Crazy story. Night of the living wasps!

I've taught my kids to stand perfectly still and say..
"I am not a flower"

I've never been stung in my 37 years. (knocks on wood)
9/10 they fly away w/o any sort of trouble.

Now my wife on the other hand has been stung several times...
Then again, she runs and flails around while screaming her head off Laughing

remember kids... you are not a flower

Laughing I now have visions of Sean standing in the yard and very loudly proclaiming his non-floral nature while the neighbors call the psych ward. Laughing

On a related note my wife is wigged out by any flying insect but especially by bees/wasps. We held a backyard b-day party for our daughter where a bunch of her friends came over to swim in the pool. While Teri and I sat in chairs to supervise a wasp came by right in front of her. She screamed and then HIT ME like I called the wasp out just to frighten here! 10 years later and I still give her crap about it. Laughing

GREAT STORY (and rather freaky) Mr. Meaty! Shocked

Well.... we capture spiders and bees/wasps in a glass cup with a piece of THICK cardboard to seal them in until we can get them outside.

I do offer up this comment to them as I set about catching them "Try to run or bit me, and I'll SQUASH THE LIVING SH*T OUT OF YOU. So be REAL NICE, sit still, and let me gently transport you to the far side of our balcony."

They usually play along. I think it is the part about "SQUASH THE LIVING SH*T" that gets their attention. Laughing

Most WASPs live to about 72 for males and 76 for females. Catholics and Jews seem to have a shorter life span, probably due to guilt. Squishing any of their heads is a no no! Laughing

Now this is where it gets strange, 5 hours later and the thing is still moving its feeler things and its mouth is still moving. I assume it cant still be its nerves, but then again how can its brain be still alive if it cant breath. Any of you guys know why its still alive, i feel really bad and cant face squishing it any more.

You people obviously know nothing about wasps. Wasps have the uncanny ability to dislodge their body from their head and grow a new one within the next 24 hours. It's a little known fact, but one that every wasp killer should be aware of.

The problem with this body re-generation is that the new body is not always that of a wasp. The head picks up whatever DNA is lying around within its "feelers'" reach and uses it to build its new body. It's important to remember that if you ever decapitate a wasp, make sure you're not sweating....
