I love the idea of having a play-in round. Brilliant! Part of the problem in the past is that the first people to sign up would land spots in tournament, leaving out several legitimate members that signed up on the late side but would have loved to participate. The early-bird's that signed up might have been infrequent members to the site and forgot that they signed up or don't take the tournament seriously, so they end up being No-Shows.... which frustrated the heck out of A: the people who didn't sign up soon enough to make the cut and B: the artists they were paired up against who wasted their time fine-tuning their entries to give them the edge to win, only to find out that a blank white canvas with the words "vote 4 Me" would have won just as easily.

Great work to the developers of this year's tournament.

and did I read this right? Winners of round 1 get 3 months of advantage? If that doesn't motivate people to sign up and participate in record numbers, I don't know what will.

yes, winners of first round will get 3 months advantage, the play-in round (or qualifying round), in the event it will be necessary, does not count as round 1. Please note that if we get well above 128 (160+) then a play in round would be considered, after all, a play in round with only 10 matches would be a waste of time imho. we are currently at 112 contestants, so, tell yor friends
