I would use the magic wand or the magnetic lasso Smile<br><br>and yes, when you have something selected you can choose Select>Transform Selection to rotate it<br><br>is this what you meant?

pen tool all the way! draw an oval with it (icons on the top), and then transform it. or draw it manually with the pen if the shape is irregular.

Stu, you have to create a new path in the Paths palette first, click on it and then start drawing with the pen tool. I agree, the vector mask thing is annoying, that happens to me often when I forget to create a new path.<br>You can also hide the path you are drawing with CTRL + H, for a visual check.

stu and mint: just lower opacity or fill to 0%, this way all next paths u make will be transparent Wink

whoa whoa whoa. You have to change the option of the pen tool from a shape layer to a path by clicking on the little icon on top of the screen.<br><img src="http://home.comcast.net/~mroberg136947mi/PSC_Pen_Tool.jpg"><br>Then just start clicking away with the pen. No need for paths palette or opacity change
