image enhancement- for those that dont want to see this week's photoshoptv this is the most usefull tip i've heard in ages. you can enhance any picture you like in a number of ways but i think this way gets the best results.
1) switch the picture mode to Lab Color
2) go to channel A, and go to edit curves
3) drag the starting points of each side closer inward [instead of a slope starting and the bottom left and going to the top right, it would be starting flat from the left, then a steep slope and then flat at the top right again] if you know what i mean
(if you are working with a big grid size then use 1 square and if its small use 2-3 squares)
3) go to channel B and repeat
4) go to the lightness channel and apply an unsharpen mask
with the unsharpen mask, its better to do it like that than in RGB mode as less of the colour sharpening problems come up when you use it, which means you can get away with more sharpening with less damage.
with the edit curves, you can do it this way or you could use levels (selecting a highlight, midtone and shadow) etc. etc. but im fairly sure the way described above gives marginally better results. use whichever way suits you
