Do you have to use the entire source image in competitions? Can you use a little piece of the image.

Hi, I'm new here as well. No you don't have to use the entire image, but the part you do use must be recognizable

As long as you use some or part of the source you are ok. And just a side note, make sure the source is somewhere it can be seen without much strain.
GOOD LUCK

Use as little or as much as you like.
Use too little so that noone can find that ya manipualated the source and it may get ya low voting, but in genereal..
as long as people can see ya used the source..you are good to go.
Welcome to PSc.

Just use what ever part you want, there is no rule really to chopping, just chop it and see. I dont tend to use all the source, but rather certain pieces of it.

You don't always have to use the source. Sometimes you can use the idea of the source. For instance. The source was a wire bird. I created a wire venus. None of the source was in my image. I created my own wire.

Technically that aint allowed...
the furthest anyone ever went before was to just use color samples from the source, but it was at least still some source.
Ya couldn't just have put a little piece of source in it?
That's just wrong.

I don't agree. I think you are wrong. Is there a rule somewhere that says otherwise? There could be, but I did not see it. I think in some cases, it is up to the voter. I think if you keep the idea of the source, it is still OK. (As long as the idea of the source is still obvious) If you do a complete illustration, technically the source no longer exists. Is that cheating? If you do an illustrator version, Technically the source no longer exists, Is that cheating. I love the "All Source" quotes. Those make me smile. If the source is an apple and you create an apple made out of bricks that looks like it, is that cheating. The source no longer exists but the idea of it remains.

Here is an image I did for the tourney.
The source is the Tank. I recreated it with cardboard. Now if I did not use the background or the source on the poster on the side of the cardboard tank, is that cheating?? I don't think so.

It's no big deal, but yes..you HAVE to use source in a chop, but
as per tradition..the voters decide.
I don't understand the tank example..
Forget it..I am gonna say you are right..I have no problem with
'source inspired" chops..in fact i think it'd be a good idea to get that thought out there.

another example of my cheating. No source remains in the final image.

It does say that, but the examples you're putting up are
the source turned into something else,
You would never get what i am saying.
This was a big deal a long time ago...
the resolution was..let voters decide.
