Sean, if I'm not horribly wrong (which I am, more often than not), Mr. Granulated was referring to the fact that when a winning 'gif' is placed on the front page (Image of the Day), it is not animated - you have to click on it to see the actual entry page. From a visitor's point of view, photoshop skills contest and all, it doesn't make much sense until you click on it.
