Didn't know where else (on the 'Net or here at PSC) I should post this question/need so here goes.

My daughter wants to create a CD curtain for her closet. I need to get several dozen (probably 100 or more) mini CDs and a few dozen regular CDs. Ideally I'd like to find a stash of used discs and mini discs. We'll be drilling several holes in them to string them together hence the desire for used ones rather than buying a load of new CD-R discs.

I could probably collect a bunch of AOL CDs for the normal discs but where can I find a good supply of mini CDs for extremely cheap (free would be better)? I got one in a package of Hewlitt Packard photo paper so I thought there might be another company with outdated discs that they'd want to dispose of.

Anyone know of a source or have suggestions? Question

Didn't figure eBay would be a good source for what's essentially trash/garbage/rubbish/waste. But it doesn't hurt to look I suppose.

Craig's List!?! Why didn't I think of that one? I'll post there. Someone there is bound to work for a large CD pressing organization and hopefully they can send me the rejects. Very Happy

I hear ya on the fishing line Joe. But since this is gonna move a lot I'm probably going with either rings (think chainmail rings) or braided line (like they use for muskie fishing up here) rather than monofilament. I think mono line would break too easy.

Very Happy go to the post office Tofu, and grab a pile of those AOL discs, I've been collecting all the ones that come in the mail over the years to do the same thing one day, you won't feel bad about drilling holes in those suckers Wink

update;

Oops,....I just read the rest of what you wrote, I missed the part about the AOL cd's...nevermind! Laughing

however, you could get some heavy duty shears, and cut the larger ones down into different shapes as well, just another bad idea. Confused

Someone on CraigsList.org pointed me to an organization called "Freecycle". There's groups in the US, Germany, the UK and France. Looks like they use Yahoo! Groups for the message board (at least the one local to me does).

Cool find! Cool

The Freecycle Network™ is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free. ... Have fun!

The Freecycle Network was started in May 2003 to promote waste reduction in Tucson's downtown and help save desert landscape from being taken over by landfills. The Network provides individuals and non-profits an electronic forum to "recycle" unwanted items. One person's trash can truly be another's treasure!
