I got to go to see our favorite Irish folk band this weekend. http://www.hair-of-the-dog.com

Anyway, they let me run my digital recorder during the show (just for myself)

We were in a very small bar, so we were packed like sardines in there. There is a LOT of crowd noise, and the band sounds so far away (even though they were only 10 or 15 feet away and had amps)

I have Nero7 (ultimate edition) and I opened Nero WaveEditor. I have never used this (I usually just use the Nero for video editing) I used Tools>Noise Reduction and did the best I could there (Pretty much cranking the right slider all the way up, and the left all the way down) I can actually hear the band now...

I am wondering if anyone else uses Nero and can give me a few pointers on getting that crowd noise reduced as far as possible (I don't expect that it can be gotten rid of totally).

The worst part is, that I have all the CD's from these guys, and this recording is just for kicks. I dont' really need it, just want to have it, and be able to listen to it. KWIM?

Thanks for any help!

KWIM?

Anyway check out Audacity. It's open source and pretty powerful. You might have better results?

KWIM - now there's an acronym for the most useless parasite phrase ("know what I mean" as well as "you know") so dearly loved and embraced by ALL Americans all the way up to the Presidential candidates (I don't know about the other English-speaking nations).

Anywho, back to your topic - the gurus in the CSI series seem to have this down to a science, you can consult with some CBS writers. They also know a lot about image enlargement and enhancements

I would try Wave Repair. It is designed for restoring vinyl and tape recordings. You can eliminate unwanted noise based on fingerprinting samples of the noise you want to remove (places in the recording without any music). Don't expect miracles though.

I use Audacity frequently to edit musical accompaniment for my two girls (both figure skaters). I haven't tried the beta version, but the basic, stable version is very easy to use. Download is fast; installation fast and painless. There is a third party dll you'll have to download in order to create MP3's, but you can find it quickly by Googling.
