Backwoodschopper had a car-b-que....oh my! I had that happen to me about 10 years ago. Engine just died...BOOM. Then...smoke came through the air vents...i got out. Within 10 minutes, my red car was a roasted smore.

I had a similar experience going down the slope of one of the Grand Island Bridges over the Niagara River some 20 years ago. Driving a 1974 Volkswagen Dasher--an inherently dangerous piece of crap vehicle. Suddenly, thick white vapor started pouring into the car through my dashboard vents. For once in my life I thought quickly and killed the ignition. I rolled down the windows and coasted to the bottom of the bridge. The hose from the fuel pump had come loose and sprayed gas all over the top of the engine block. Don't ask me why it didn't ignite. Every once in a while I think about how close I came to becoming 60 mph barbecue. My lucky day, I guess.

Never happened to me but I have driven pass a guy on the free way waving his arms around like a big loony and wondered if he knows the car behind him is on fire and billowing smoke like a steam train.
