@ron...I was thinking of a shadow but i deduced that since the fire is in front and slightly to his left (against the wall) the shadow would project further back into the cave and to his right so it wouldn't actually be seen from the viewers perspective.

Louis, you could put a touch of orange in him using color balance and he would be more fire lit ;)

My daughter, who made the source photo last summer, asked me to tell you that this was one of her favorite images, and the fact that you have to look at least twice, to find the fish head in your image made it fun.
