Jasper, add a bit of shadow under the car and put in some waves to make it apear distorted by the heat. This is a cool idea.

oc - I had done most of the distortion but it was hard to see on the gray pavement - and I missed it on the back tires - added more to back and shadow. ;-) I agree with your comments.
