voter two thanks for your input but I do like the amount of difference in lightness between the buildings,at least in my moniter,it gives a good illusion of depth of distance

when you look at it from photografie, it is totaly wrong; but you like it, fine for me.

voter two,the effect is called "atmospheric perspective",it's true in landscapes as in the article and it's true in buildings as here, read this and ILLUMINATE yourself: thehelpfulartteacher.blogspot.com...
Luxwiz
contrast, saturation and brightness all change with distance, this one explains it better: arthints.com...

candron
good article

Luxwiz
the degree to how much atmospheric effect is applied would depend on the atmospheric conditions...so it would vary according to humidity, pollution etc.as well as the distance between the viewer and the objects...
Luxwiz
the imporrant thing is that I have applied it in the image...the degree to which it is applied is arbritrary...as for aspect ratio I'm not sure what you mean
Luxwiz
what has aspect ratio to do with atmospheric perspective ?
Luxwiz
oh I think you mean the sky in the top right not the building...I'll check it out
Luxwiz
I edited the top right corner and I like it better as was

I seem to have left out "general depth" in my original comment. Edges have a big effect on that. The building that should look most distant has sharp edges with the previous bkgrnd still present of which hinders it's depth. *!*

While atmospheric perspective is of course real, I just don't it applies effectively in this image. In using the "source" aspect ratio, the image looks compressed. Using a wide angle ratio can help to improve depth...me thinks*!*
Luxwiz
agree about a panoramic view would add to the depth perception but I kept the original source parameters...what can I say...
Luxwiz
actually the basic idea was just to turn the ski jump into a building then decided to add a couple more and give the image some depth but didnt think this issue was going to get to this degree of controversy 8·)

the burning couch
Controversy? naah... just different mindsets. Some tend to be more detail oriented, some not. No biggy *!*
Luxwiz
but don't get me wrong it is very important to mind the details,as per your work, and I do agree with your advice to improve this chop,so let me put it this way I guess I'm just a bit lazy with this non epic chop and can't be bother editing it any more
