A nice way to do shadows is to make a mask of the object that is throwing the shadow, create a new plain, fill it with the appropriate colour; I usually use black and tone it late; and drag the shadow onto the ground plain. Tweak it until you are happy.

Go to filter, distort, displace and displace your shadow with the saved image to get the shadow to distort with the ground plain.
