it still looks very soft to me... the shadow should be as dark as the big boat right? or at least the center of the shadow

2 kinds of shadows, surface shadows and bottom shadows. The tug boat shadow is a surface shadow. The raft has a surface shadow and a distant bottom shadow. The bottom shadow would not be nearly as dark.
