i like this concept, but the crunchy edges of the apple & pipe plus the poor type treatment bother me... here's a vote for a good idea, but i'd love to see it cleaned up!

you can experiment with feathering selections. I read ledirlo's tutorial on using quick mask - it's made a difference in my work. Other than that, practice makes perfect.
