Everything made from source. The knots were made from the front plank that was reflected and merged with itself to give the impression of roundness. External reference for knot (not used as source): [img] ihatedelphi.com... |

This type of design was very popular all over northern europe in the early middle ages.

Here are the steps I used to create the knots from the front plank. The curves were made by blending small pieces together. The whole image took about 4 1/2 hours. [img] ihatedelphi.com...

This design is an ancient symbol for infinity and rebirth, so the repetitive nature of it is part of the design. If you look close you can actually see the real modern symbol for infinity in the borders.

If you are a Christian (I'm not) it also has a connection with rebirth in the form of the cross and rebirth of Christ, which is one reason it's called an eternal cross. Of course the cross was also a pagan symbol too.
