Great .gif! And yes, optimizing down to entry-size is a challenge. There is no "magic" answer. Some tricks include trimming parts of the canvas from the get-go, using only colors sampled from the source, and cutting down # of frames.

Your animation is very smooth, and the size/colors aren't bad, either. Complex .gif here; looks great! I don't think you need or should change anything. Those are only some possibilities to play with. Do see Couldb5150's portfolio for examples
