I've been having a real hard time tring to adhere to the Max/Min image entry size.
As soon as I get the file down to the 125kb the image is too small for the minimum pixel ratio and get that 'orrid error message 'Go Back and try again'.
(Now I know how those little newts feel like when they hit the old condom barrier)

What is the secret somebody, I need a walkthrough? I hate doing this over and over again and get nowhere!

if you are using photoshop, try the Save For Web feature. It allows you to fine tune the file size. Most users seem to make their image on a canvas that fits the entry limitations (say 550 wide x 450 high or larger and the same aspect ratio), but a much larger file size. Then they optimize it for web with Save For Web, or a like feature in other image editing software.

FILE > SAVE FOR WEB > do your optimizing in there

Even lowered the DPI from 72 down to 40...it looked 'orrible;-)
Seems like when I get the File Size just right then I'm over the top with the 125kb limit. A no win situation!

I've even tried washing it through the Save For Web a few times, but it won't byte.

God knows how I got my last 2 images entered...beginners luck perhaps?

You can grab 'advantage' http://photoshopcontest.com/advantage/psc.html for about $40AUD. Gives you a weeks worth of source pictures in advance (which you can pre-post) and ups your file size limit to 512kb....

So, Wiz (if you aren't TOO smashed on Bundie Fumes! ) a couple questions.

1) BEFORE you do any 'reducing' of anything, what is the pixel dimension of your completed PSD file?

2) there is no 2nd question at this point. Please answer #1 before we proceed.

Only trouble is I don't have a Paypal Account, got rid of it about a year ago.

But now understand the file size limitations I'm working under, and 'Early Bird preferences some of us enjoy...ah well, you get what you pay for, too bad

So with the image OPEN in PS, go to (as Splodge mentioned) FILE > SAVE FOR WEB.

Make sure you are saving it as a JPEG.

Put the quality around 60%~70% .

In the display tabs, choose 2-up.... the left image is the uncompressed version, the right side should be JPEG, and it tells you at the bottom of that window the actual file size in KB depending on your quality setting. Keep an eye on the right window to see how good or bad your compression is compared to the Uncompressed image on the left.

When you're happy, to up to the right part of the whole window and hit SAVE, and do as you normally do.
