At approximately 2:10 a.m. on July 20, 2006,[1] Osment was driving alone from a Muse concert in his 1995 Saturn station wagon and allegedly lost control of the vehicle;[2] as a result, the car crashed into a mailbox on a brick base and flipped over. Osment was conscious and communicating immediately after the crash. He fractured a rib and his right shoulder blade and suffered cuts and abrasions[1]. His doctor noted that Osment is "in good condition" and would remain hospitalized for at least two days after the accident.[3] Police suspect that Osment may have been under the influence of alcohol during the accident. L.A. County Sheriff Sgt. Mark Slater specified that "there is going to be a full investigation" regarding the circumstances of the incident.[1] A blood sample was taken, which is standard in any injury-causing accident in California.
