I once saw a guy along Hollywood Boulevard do something like that. It's cool and flashy but in the end it is something that loses the wow factor as soon as it gets to the house (as badcop pointed out).
Isn't this airbrushing art without an airbrush? And since there's no airbrush it seems so much more difficult for the viewing audience?
The other thing I've noticed is that these things are almost always a space theme. Anyone ever see one of these artists do a portrait or still life? I'd be curious to see that done using these techniques.
There are things I like about it though. The way he did the pyramids and planetary rings was cool. And the fire at the end was nifty. Wonder what purpose that serves? At first I thought it was to set-up the paint but then he signs the work by using a stylus in the paint. So...texture...gloss?
One things for sure the guy knows how to use layers and masks!
