.

Every day this forum receives numerous posts that we all label "spam" the moment we open them.
They point us to other websites, usually promoting porn or vitamins.
Despite numerous members voicing their disapproval, the incidence rate of these posts has increased noticibly in the recent past.

Every day this forum receives numerous posts that we do NOT label as "spam".
They point us to other websites usually promoting mind-numbing flash games or video jokes.
Despite numerous members voicing their disapproval, the incidence rate of these posts has increased noticibly in the recent past.

I'm not implying that one is worse than the other.
On one side you have porn and on the other side you get to shoot santa in a flash game produced for a grade 5 computer assignment.
I know which one I'd prefer.

My question to you is, they're both "spam", aren't they?

nope... it depends on the context in which they are posted...

93 percent of porn sites are layed out in photoshop and the models have been photoshoped. so even if you dont want to fap to the material you can still learn from the makers mistakes

same with the flash games if its a good game you can learn from the style and make your own or perhaps take some layout cues from it.

but if its mindless shameless self promotion of viagra....

wel thats wrong..

ps want a hard *ock try these sites ...lol

I can't belive you read this you dirty Razz

I notice you deleted the santa game a minute before I even posted this.
I guess someone else got to you first?

actually neither are, true spam comes in a can and is like ham but not, and is basically the left overs of all the bits of all the animals we don't like to eat. It was invented quite literally as a cheap means of foodage for British World War II guys and gals, to serve up as a 'hearty' Confused meal for all the family while the food rationing was on.

Somehow though it has suvived to this day, and it still tastes like a dogs ass.

More seriously though, yes BC both are 'spam' as such. But if its porn and vitamins, i'll go find them myself Laughing

The games are fine by me I guess, not something I would have come across on my own maybe, although I think there should somehow be a place to put these, exclusive of the usual forum. As I agree it clogs up the forum highlights section on the hompage, and sends really interesting and helpful threads straight off the list. And nobody enjoys trying to dig them out again.

The youtube or google video's millions of links are the same, a bit of light relief, always worth a laugh, but need to be separated.

IMO if they can't then they need to go, as it can get a bit annoying having 10 threads all on the homepage about how a dog got itself in 10 slightly different rather tight situations Laughing

And as for the porn/vitamins/badgers/ass creams/special toilets for taller people etc etc these need to be shot out a rather large cannon sharpish, because they are the most annoying out of all of them.

Does show how more wide know PSC is becoming though Very Happy

Shocked
I thought you learned everything!

93%... I really learned something now! Smile

... and you can also learn how to have sex with somebody else than yourself! Surprised Laughing

Okay, since I am fairly new here I probably shouldn't have a say in this, but I promise I do have a point. First off, badcop you really did bring up an excellent point, but I cannot agree totally with it. The people of this site are such wonderful, friendly people and because of that fact they have become friends. Therefore, friends like to share things with other friends to make them smile or whatever. I really don't see the harm in it, especially when there is a title in the forums called general, which can really mean anything. Very Happy I know, you probably want to slap me, but yeah, that's all for now folks, move along, *zips lips*

You should by all means have a say in this and thanks for your viewpoint.

I have no doubt that these are wonderful people with good intentions.
And I'm sure there are people who enjoy some of the links that are posted.

However, there are many people who have publicly expressed their disapproval for these links based both on their irrelevance to the site (a key component of spam) and rate of occurence.

A very reasonable compromise was suggested in the way of keeping these posts to one thread, named something like "My Hilarious Links".

This was ignored in the belief that each link was deserving of its own thread.
For lack of a better word, I think that behaviour is selfish.

One day at work, I was in the midst of conversation with a colleague about a job we were working on. Another colleague approached my desk to talk to me about a different project. Rather than respecting the fact that we were in the middle of an important (and somewhat time-sensitive) task, she interrupted us with her work request. And to make it worse, she actually prefaced her request with "wow, I'm being totally rude butting in like this *giggle*, but..." and launched right into her business. So not only was she being unnecessarily distracting, she actually acknowledged that fact and did it anyway.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but this story felt somewhat relevant here...

Are there rules for using the forums for a particular reason or a particular way (or site only topics) by the moderators? Maybe some should be established since this seems to be such a problem for some members.

I have noticed people make such statements, but I have also noticed a lot of people tagging along. I do find some of the posts to be annoying like the Youtube or google vids, but I figured that is what the forums were for among other things.

I wouldn't suggest that this warrants a formal rule.
It's more a case of social etiquette.
If I were to tell a loud joke in a restaurant I'm sure someone at a nearby table would find it funny, but I still keep it down for the others.

Another option when you're at the restaurant is to announce, "hey everyone, this is the joke table! If you want to hear a joke please come to my table."

Maybe this would apply better to the internet. That gesture got me banned from 4 restaurants, 2 libraries and a funeral house.

I believe the "difference" is a member vs. spammer.

When a MEMBER posts something they are doing it to share, there is no motive other then FUN. It would be a PITA to have to dig thru to find a thread that was delegated to certain topics unless they were made stickies. when you go to the Forum links page things are divided up by category, but when it hits the home page they are not...

Personally I seldom read the threads anymore because of all the complaining about this that or the other...and now the complaints are about others having fun?

To each their own..Live and let live.

You have a choice to open a thread or not..exercise that right and let ev1 else play..there are alot of bigger issues to focus your energy on in this world.

Just my 1 cents (the dollar fell again) Confused
