I'm sorry if this has been asked but ive looked on the internet tyring to find a way to make a solid color look like it is rippled. It works fine with a picture obviously because there is an image to make it look rippled, but how do you add it to a solid color....are there some tricks to doing this...maybe adding a shadow or a light gradient...hmmmm....i just had an idea....anyone else has any info please let me know.

thank you,
Rich

Hi Rich. Just to get a better idea can you describe what kind of ripple effect your looking for? Something like water waves or just a ripple type design?

You can cheat (if you already have an image of the ripples you like), copy the ripples in a new layer over the solid color, desaturate and change the blending mode to hard light or luminosity

i have an image that i want to look like it is reflecting off of water...and i can get the image itself to ripple but the background color i picked stays flat...ive tried adding texturs as well but it only seems to ripple the edge of the layer...

the cheat idea may be an option as well i was just curious if there was actually a way in PS to do it...thanks for any help

OK here's what I would do to make a solid color ripple

First make a new layer on top of the solid color you want, change the layer setting to hard light, then change the foreground color to 50% gray. then use the radial gradient tool to make a circle be sure that the gradient is set "forground to transpatent"...
make that the size you desire... once thats done
go to Filter>Distort>ZigZag on that layer.

mess with perspective and levels till you get the ripple you desire...

create it on a perfect 'overhead' vertical view then use perspective resize to match the scene.
