I don't know if anyone had a Peaches Records and Tapes store in their town, but we did, and it was a big deal, my two older sisters were day & night managers of the store, and bands were always coming in to sign records, or play a little gig before a concert, they always got backstage passes, so it was a good time those late 70's, anyway, ThinLizzy came in the store, and that was when I was turned on to them, I've always liked the energy they put into music, and was quite bummed when Lynott died.
I'll never forget walking in the store one day, and Charlie Daniels was singing, with my little brother sittin on his lap, I fell out, I was laughin my ass off, so many stories of great groups from that time.
Anyone ever hear of Tommy Bolin? (James Gang- Deep Purple)he died right after a concert down here in Miami, ho OD'd on some bad shit, anyway, same thing, he was in the store before the show, who could have known

By the way, anybody into things like this?
Theese are maybe my favorite bands, if not favorite then in the top 5 id say... Hope youll like it
(Here are some youtube links if youre interested to hear it)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird (Live) - If youre just a little into this kind of music take the time to listen to the whole video... To get the most of the song it has to be from beggining to the end without any interuptuions... If you never heard it before you could be very supprised at about 6:45 when the solo comes. Turn off the light and boost the volume of the speakers up a bit

Been a long time since I've heard anything from Rory, and look how young Eric Clapton is I think Skynyrd is still around too, those were good Pod.
Skynyrd Trivia
Ronnie Van Zant, the singer, once said that he would never see his 30th birthday. He died just a few months short of turning 30.
Since the singer's interment in 1977, rumors have existed that Ronnie Van Zant was buried in a Neil Young T-shirt as a supposed curse against him, although truthfully there was no feud between the two. Some fans believe this rumor was the reason the gravesites of Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines were broken into on June 29, 2000, in Orange Park, Florida. Others believe that this desecration was motivated by the 1986 Dead Kennedys track "A Commercial" [4] which mockingly referred to exhuming the bodies of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Van Zant's casket was dragged onto the grounds, but was not opened. Gaines' cremated remains, which were in a plastic bag in an urn, were scattered on the ground near his site. 99% of his ashes were recovered. The families decided to move their remains to an undisclosed location, leaving the mausoleums as memorials for fans to visit.

I went to a concert at the Indio Polo Grounds of what was left of the Allman Bros. in 1990. Thought we were soooo smart sitting in the FRONT row. The sound reverberated through my mini skirt...I had to stick cig butts in my ears...
still...they are the BEST...I LOVE THE BLUES!

Sadly ive never been to any of those concerts... Since im 23 now half of the people/bands playing this music dont exist anymore, have died of drugs or have only 10% of the original lineup
Yes Paul, Skynyrd is still around but only half of them or less are from original lineup so it cant be like in the good old days when i was -10 years old , but ive heard that still their shows are nice to watch so i might go if they come somwhere near
And speeking of Allmans and Skynyrd in the same thread, 1st version of Freebird was written in 1969, but after Duane Allman died in motorcycle accident 1971 they started playing it as a tribute to him

You know Pod, it's hard for me to imagine missing any of the 60's 70's 80's music, everything changed musicwise during that timespan, so many great groups have come and gone, I hope this thread can shed a little light on the subject, you being younger can tell me and some of us older farts, what's going on in the music world now, I mean what's new and hot that we should listen to?
