Taken from a different forum Here , but I was wondering what you guys think of this... my pick of venues for a potential FIFA World Cup in Australia. (In say 2018 or 2022)
Victoria:
Melbourne Cricket Ground 100,000 seats.
Docklands Stadium (Melbourne) 56,347 seats.
Kardinia Park (Geelong) Upgraded to at least 36,000 with 4,000 extra temporary seats.
New South Wales:
Stadium Australia (Sydney Olympic Stadium) 83,500 seats.
Marathon Stadium (Newcastle) Upgraded to 40,000 seats.
Queensland:
Lang Park (Brisbane) 52,500 seats.
Stockland Stadium (Townsville) Upgraded to 40,000 seats.
Robina Stadium (Gold Coast) Upgraded to 40,000 seats.
Western Australia:
Stadium WA (Perth) 70,000 seats.
South Australia:
Adelaide Oval Upgraded to 50,000 seats.
ACT:
Canberra Stadium Upgraded to 40,000 seats.
Tasmania:
York Park (Launceston) Upgraded to 30,000 with 10,000 extra temporary seats.
Northern Territory:
Mararra Stadium (Darwin) Upgraded to 30,000 with 10,000 extra temporary seats.
All of these venues would be all-seaters of course.
That's 13 venues right there, where each would host at least 2 group matches (of different groups) and host at least one round of 16 and or the quarter-finals and semis. Telstra Stadium (The one used for the Sydney Olympics) would host the First game, whilst the Melbourne Cricket Ground would host the Final.
Just thought it would be nice to see at least 1 venue from each of the capital cities take part, along with some other venues elsewhere. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif)

Nah.. nah no school project... just an old topic... trying to get people's opinions on the idea, that's all...
Oh and the plural for Stadium is either Stadiums or Stadia.

I don't think Aus should have any right to host the world cup. It's not your national sport. I dont think the USA and Japan should have hosted it either. There's football loving nations all over the world that will never get the chance to host it and that pisses me off!

Don't hate the player, don't hate the game, hate the bureaucrats that control the game!

Well it's obvious why the USA hosted it, big money and large spectators for to watch matches. (Which the US bid was boosted with the large numbers that watched Football during the '84 Olympics)
Why not Japan? It's their favorite sport! Second only to Baseball, Karate, Rugby...
We have every right as others to host the World Cup, especially if it helps promote the game in a country that is well into accepting it as a sport they'd watch along side the others. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif)
