Digging up an old thread - still relevant today (and the other day too) - winning gifs on the front page (Image of the Day) are not animated, which makes them look a bit odd. Any chance to have this changed?

since this is back up and about... and because of this thread (when it was originally posted) I try making my gif's start at the end for 0-1seconds. that way if they ever make it to the front page they will look like 'something' had been done instead of either a black screen or the actual original source image.

Another question on the same general topic - what shall I do if/when a gif is voted for the Image of the Month Mosaic (coughmigrationloopcough) when more often than not the starting frame is the same as the source.

Also - imagine a mosaic for a gif with a white 1st frame
