That's what i've done... Sorry for the big deal out of it. It wasn't my intention.
As for what Bill said, that is so well said, I'm crying right now. I wish my english was that good.

See this is why I dont chop on images I submitted...to me...I repeat..TO ME..this would be cheating and should be written into the rules to make it a more even playing feild...taking images to use in a different source is fine but same objects/people in the same source background is a huge advantage

So we should not allow people to use their own photos as externals in their chops then. After all nobody else has access to those photos right? That's an unfair advantage. Reinman's portfolio of self-appearances should be removed as nobody else has those photos of him.
I say that it should be noted in the author's notes that they supplied the source and therefore have access to other angles that other people don't. I didn't see any dishonesty or unethical behavior in DP's entry. It should be obvious to all the people, qualified to vote here, that it was just another shot integrated into the first. If DP had used the second shot as an entry then it would have been dishonest.

Would it make any difference if there was an author's comment to the effect of "combined with other pictures I took of my own kids - the same ones you see in the source"

I see your points. and well said as well tofu.
but its one of the reasons why I don't like chopping when my source pictures come up, if I do chop them, but I try to chop them like everyone else now, and in my case with my crusade picture, there were people who still didn't know cause they didn't bother checking with the link I provided.

If you want to self include you in your chop, you can. That's what Reindude did many times. No, you can't have pics of him but why would you need those? He looks like sh*t! The problem in that case is that those kids already are in the source pic...

It's not that he used his own source, but that he used an alternate angle of the exact daily image source that he submitted, and that is the issue. People can use their own sources all they want, just not in this instance; like blue lurker just said: "taking images to use in a different source is fine but same objects/people in the same source background is a huge advantage"

I think to avoid problems in the future, if you submit a source, and its accepted, you should be disqualified from participating in said contest.

I realize I don't chop a lot anymore; but this policy wouldn't make me want to submit photos any longer.

Obviously that would work, but we don't want to have a rule like that dissuade any potential source submitters from posting sources.
What will likely happen is since this rule (the one about using alternate angles, etc of your submitted source) doesn't seem to be written anywhere publicly, it will likely be added to the source image submission page and maybe the faq/rules.

I don't have to agree with it but I'd abide by it.

My bad tofu, I didn't mean the rule about not being able to post in contests with your source, I meant the other one, about using the alternate angles of your own source submission in your entry for that contest.
