I like your first attempt marco but Proc said he also needed something that would look good in greyscale too.
8.5 x 11 cm is postcard saize wasn't sure what the deal on hand outs at uni or large poster was, no matter I done all sizes lol.

Here's my attempt: (May be produced in "Series" replacing the choppers' posts you see here, with others )
*note, this has been resized from 8.5 x 11 inches

to bo honest they look kinda unprofessional ... and wouldn't online advertising be more effective ? That way you have the whole world to sign up in stead of whole toronto ... or is that a money thing cause placing banners costs money ...
