I'm working through a tut on making a metallic shape. The steps say to create a new layer and fill it with a medium grey (did that). Then I'm supposed to use Filter -> Render -> Lighting Effects. But the only enabled options under Render are Lens Flare and Fibers.

What am I missing?

When I created my filled layer I did it as an actual fill layer. Then I thought maybe that wasn't right so I rasterized the layer. Still no go so I dupe'd the layer and then merged the two of them to ensure I had a regular layer. Still no workie.

So then I tried creating a new layer and then using the paint bucket to fill it with a medium grey. Still no workie.

Help?

are you in 16bit mode? My CS2 Wont in 16 but will in 8......

Is your document in RGB?

yes...

Chances are you're working in RGB/16 bit per channel mode. Many of the filters can't handle the higher bit per channel modes.

Switch back to 'classic' RGB/8 bit per channel (under Image - Mode)

Now that I think about it I believe I ran into a problem with the 8-bit vs. 16-bit before.
