If you didn't care you wouldn't have started this thread.

'No reference' is BS - if probably means "I didn't have a similar image in front of me while photoshopping"
It doesn't really mean "I'm a PS guru", it means "I have a good memory" and sometimes "good art training". Because, chances are, you have seen an object or scene like this before
I very much prefer the 'no source' entries.

I finaly found the source that could have provoced this forum and I think I agree on the all source no reference so what - from personal experiance. I put no reference on a chop one time and after I had put it up, looked at the image again a few weeks later (early entry) and thought well, maybe I should go google for an "original" to see how far off I was. And then I noticed that I had, in my non reference from memory chop - had left out the one part that makes a cow a cow. Thus leaving me with no other option then to edit my entry.
Looking at a model is not a bad thing when working on a chop, unless you can't be bothered with reality details. And even then.... it pays to check.

I think we may be on about different things...
I just say "who cares" when someone says, "all source".
Because half the time, it's just another robot or flower or fish.
Of course, often there are real gems. But it certainly doesn't mean there's more talent to an "all source".
I judge it by the final result.
Hell, I recently won a contest where I used 0% of the source.

That image was the thing that got me going, but it is something that has bothered me for a while. I just think too much is made of "All Source". Nobody is wrong or right. JMO I have even been guilty of putting that dumb phrase on my images...I think .

No, I meant the same thing as you. I just had a couple points to make.

A lot of times when I see "no reference used" I think, "Man ..they should have used reference". Usually the shadows are all wrong, the light sources are all over the place, the perspective is off, reflections make no sense, etc., etc., Unless you are creating an abstract or a dream world of some kind, it pays to use reference. It's not cheating!!! It's smart!!

Red sauce is my fave.
I also like tartar sauce and certain brands of BBQ sauce.
