Look, I see yer a nice kinda person and all, and I like that.
BUT, seriously, if you are not a paid advertisement, a member of the Chamber of Commerce into illicit drugs, nor an Amway scammer..
then it is the utmost grossest of all social faux pas' to use the term
"social networking" when speaking, or writing, or in any other way attempting to converse/communicate/chat/fornicate with other people,
especially those of the same social matrix as you (I.E. "Choppers"/"Choppers who don't do anything"/"Caf - after she has become a mod"/"Caf back she wasn't a mod yet"/ and Dead Parrot salespersons who insist that the dead Parrot is indeed.....alive)

NYC can be difficult for "finding" people, i.e. new friends.

Try the library, or museums, join a club for something that interests you... a book club or such. Some speciality stores have regular gatherings, like speakers and book clubs. There are Adventure Clubs for active people (hiking, etc.) Take a class.
