I'm curious to know what the different Operating Sytems people are using, I currently use WinXP and was wondering if what other's may be using & what the drawbacks are, if there are. I was currently thinking of switching to Linux, Mainly cause it's open source so there's not as many bugs that float around in with holes in the sytem like windows. If there's anyone here that use's Linux, Please let me know what it's like...

Why'd you combine XP & Vista into one?

Anyway Linux is good and it depends on the distro and you for how much you'll like it. If you're not tech savvy you might like Ubuntu. Otherwise Debian, FreeBSD, etc.

I put XP and Vista under one mainly because it's like the same house with just a new addition and paint job, new trim, and maybe wall paper.. New entertainment system.. So basically they're the same as far as I'm concerned...

I had a Motorola Ming cell phone that ran on Linux and it kept crashing. Guess they haven't mastered that one yet Smile

You would be surprised to know how much of the world depends on linux. The majority of the internet is on safe reliable linux servers. Most high tech home appliances including tv's, bread machines, and capucino machines run linux. CNC machines overwhelmingly run linux. Cash Registers at the store... I could go on forever!

I have a friend that's been programming since the late 70's, and he swears by Linux.

That's called "media" and "marketing". The Linux crowd doesn't have the marketing machine that MS and Apple do. And then, if they did, that would mean Linux would cost money.

You'd know many were using it depending on what sites/magazines you read and what social circles you moved in. I do not say that trying to sound snotty.

Think of it like cars. If you're in a car club for a specific make/model you'll hear more about that make/model than any others.

If you read on /. or TechRepublic or many other tech sites you'd see more about Linux than you could ever want.
