Nobody knows?
I went ahead and started installing all 3. This is taking FOREVER to install. Slower than frozen molasses. It's been 40 minutes and it's still on disc 1.

Im not sure but i guess the easiest way would be to use some of the freeware programs like avi2dvd or something similar, depending on your original file format...

I've got the software. Just wanted to know if I needed to install and use all three in order to put my home movies to DVD.
Since I didn't hear back I went ahead and installed them. Took a freakin' hour-and-a-half to finish! Lamest install interface ever! At one point I thought it had frozen up because the progress bars weren't moving at all. They need to provide more info on that stupid screen. Something that changes so we know it's doing something.

What i got from using premiere pro and after effects was a mass of tears and excruciating pain. They take bloody long to render the damn video... for a 1:30 min long clip it took me almost 3 hours ( intel quadcore 8 gig ram ) just to encode the damn video to mpg.
Your better off downloading some video encoder of a torrent site like podgorski said.

Seems like they all do video. You should be ok with Premiere only. If I understand this correctly in a nutshell
- Premiere is for editing (cut/paste/splice/transitions/etc.)
- After Effects is for more sophisticated compositing, masking and effects (think of it as Photoshop for video)
- Encore is for outputting your video to different formats
A lot of features will be overlapping in the three products. And they can be all, let's say, overwhelming. Why don't you start with the simpler software (say Adobe Premiere Elements)

This whole thing started when I was trying to make a short video in Windows Movie Maker. I've used it on my home PC several times and it works well enough for basic editing. But everytime I tried to use it on my work machine it kept crashing. Finally got sick of it and remembered that I had the aforementioned software on the install discs.
Now I've installed them and the first time I tried to run After Effects it crashed on launch. Premier Pro crashed on launch as well.
I should just rebuild my Linux box and go for some OSS version.

quicktime pro works just as well for video. I love my mac it has imovie on it and makes movie making wonderful but you can easily convert a digital camera movie over to quicktime with the least amount of pain.
I had to take a class that involved making movies with real player, windows media and quicktime and it was a painful learning experience but the Streaming Media Bible answered every question I had and quicktime pro has great tutorials for encoding.

Yeah. And? I've got Master Collection too.
Anyway I finally got Premier Pro to work (somewhat). So I fiddled and made this video for you all.
