Soon I will be in the process of making some T shirt designs, but I am not sure what colors of T's I should print on mostly. Should I go with the basic colors of black & white or should I try to match the color to the design? Any suggestions would be useful!

Design first. Then pick a shirt color. The design might look like shit on black but look great with yellow. Think of the shirt as part of the design. (very important)

Ok I said that wrong, I have some designs already that is why I was asking about the colors.

The best (Recommended) background color for your monitor when 'Photochopping' is a mid neutral grey. That's because it does not upset true color balance between any other colors you place on it. (That's what the Pro's say anyway).
Me, I like the grey and the quality of the 'Hanes' brand of T-Shirts.
That's my 2c worth
