I've only just come across this thread, but as an occasional part-time session lecturer at (F)UCCA (yes, I know!) with marking experience, the best ways to impress your tutors are to:

a) produce quality, thought-provoking work (it is very obvious when a student hands something in just for the sake of it, or with 5mins thought, rather than actually paying it intellectual//creative dues!)...

b) think about how you present your work when you hand it in...a quality method (even if just nicely mounted) speaks volumes...

c) clearly label all your work with your name and, if applicable, your student number (and mobile no. as it's amazing how often things mysteriously seem to go walkabout)...

d) Keep a journal of all your processes//thoughts//samples//ideas, whatever 'area' you're working in (graphics, fine art, ceramics etc.)...maybe invest in a set of nice sketch books or smile at some kindly relative!...

e) enjoy the time you have to spend on projects cos in the real world deadlines are shorter and it is never enough!

f) show interest and be willing to learn *something* even if you're bored stiff - you never know how it will pay off in the future...

g) Read the briefs and understand them (or ask)! You'll be amazed at how many students can't read the instructions given or work required from a single sheet of paper
