Sorry but I gotta rant here.

For the last month I've been swamped with working on a catalog for work. I've been pulling together images and text to pass onto the "graphic designer" putting the page layouts together.

The other day she emails me about a tif file. Wants to complain about 2 things. First "why did you make the file so that it opens with Quicktime?" And second "plus the colors are all off" (the pic is in CMYK not RGB and Quicktime doesn't know what to do with CMYK).

So I let that one go. But today another "graphic designer" for a different publisher has come along and she doesn't know how to handle layers, tif formats, and also doesn't know about CMYK. Shocked

How can you work in a print and/or graphics industry (and supposedly have a degree in the field) and NOT know about these things?!? Mad

I'm a noob at this stuff and I seem to know more than these two combined!

[ end rant ] Razz

They're building a new house two lots over from me. Met the nice lady that's gonna be moving in. She told me that she is a graphic artists , and how excited she is at how her career has taken off. She said to me...she said.
"OMG, It is so amazing what you can do with the new filters they put in Photoshop"
I was actually quite surprised at how that annoyed the living piss out of me.

Confused

Definitely worrying... my degree isn't in graphics but I've done it for the last 11+ years... and what shocks me is clients not having a clue about file types, and supplying images in Word. Grrrrrrrrr. Or people who have powers to edit their websites and think they're designers...they're the worst.

Tofu. Have a little faith. Its always been done this way. In every industry. In every age. Competent workers vs. ignorant directors.
