I am so happy for my first win, and a prize contest, to boot!
Woot, woot!
Let me tell you, I had an emergency situation with my electricity and I had to be immediately shut off with no warning. My meter box was actually glowing red and hot enough to start melting my metal aluminum siding.
I've been without power for three days, and it cost me almost $2000 to fix the problem, so I was happy to see the news of the win on here today. REALLY made my day after a stinky week!
Thanks for the votes and the nice comments, everyone!

firstly great chop, and a well deserved win.
secondly, unless you or the husband have done something stupid inside the house the guy that built your distribution board inside the house, or the power suppliers are libel for any meltdown of the metering box, dont tel me you built a kiln without asking me how to wire it???

There was corrosion in the main switch that was in the bsmt. That made the power surge back out into the meter from inside the house. I needed a new service to get back up to code, because codes have changed since my house was built, so fixing the problem meant updating as well.
All's good now, though....

Congratulations again, Delia. You've done some beautiful work. Overdue and well-deserved.
Splodge makes good points. Can't hurt to check if your homeowner's policy covers some of you costs, too. Was it water seeping into the service panel from the 220 line via the meter box outside? If, so I'd take the time to pester your utility company. Make sure the new one has the 220 line entering from the bottom of the box.
Now bask in the glow of your victory.

Yes, it was water seeping into the main switch in the basement, through the wall. The service has been mived to a proven dry area, and does come out the bottom.
Was considering calling homeowners. Worst that happens is they say no, right?
