YOU run a tracert command and supply the IP address YOU are asking the computer to trace the route that goes

you entered. So to get results you SEND the request and RECEIVE responses from each computer that your request goes through. This is a basic delivery verification system. Without you receiving there'd be no confirmation. That's where the SEND and RECEIVE comes in to play.
So every hop that your request makes sends back a receipt notice from THAT computer to your computer. It's a bit like making an international phone call and tracking each switchboard that your call goes through. You made the call to that number and track it through each switchboard. That's not the equivalent of that 6th switchboard in the line trying to call you.
Just for giggles I looked up the IP address of the computer you are worried about by using the ARIN WHOIS lookup (which is at
http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl if anyone else is interested).
